MELANIE DU TOIT

STYLE: NAIVE

Melanie du Toit studied art and design more than ten years ago at the Port Elizabeth Technikon and have made a living from her art since then. Paintings and people fill up her days and she loves spending time with both.

Often her work is about people, their beauty, bravery and brokenness. Sometimes her style can be described as emotional impressionism, capturing a momentary mood.

She goes through subject matters quickly and often run with new ideas: naïve folk art landscapes, abstracts, clay jars and whatever comes to mind next. She has lived in the Middle East and Soviet Union and she has also traveled to India and South America exploring other cultures. Her travel definitely has influenced her work. Nature, peoples’ stories and the Bible inspire her. She experiences painting as a form of worship, rather than just a job.
